This program is designed to provide training and assessment for the Resources and Infrastructure Industry (RII) Units of Competency.
This induction program is the most universally accepted induction program in Australian mining. However, individuals and contractors should confirm induction requirements with the site they will be working on before attending an induction to ensure the process aligns with site processes and is recognised by site.
The course is a necessity for any individual working in the Queensland coal mining industry. The purpose of this course is to introduce participants to the following components of the mining industry:
- General mining overview
- Legislation
- General safety
- Managing workplace hazards
- Risk management
- Isolation and tagging procedures
- Traffic and mobile equipment procedures
- Emergency procedures
- Life saving first aid
- Fire fighting and fire prevention
- The environment
- The work process.
Who should attend
The Standard 11 Mine Safety Induction (Surface) course is suitable for new and experienced mine workers.
Note: Each mine site may have its own induction requirements. Please check with the mine operator before enrolling in this course.
Course delivery and assessment
The STD 11 Mine Safety Induction (Surface) course is delivered face-to-face; participants will be required to complete written and practical assessments over the duration of the induction. On successful completion of the training component, participants will be issued with a Statement of Completion, along with a mine induction ID card.
In addition to the training component of the mine induction, participants will be required to complete a mine on-site verification within 6 months of the training. On successful completion of the on-site verification, participants will be issued with a Statement of Attainment for the relevant units of competency, in addition to their final ID card.
Upon successful completion of the theory component of this course, students will be issued a Statement of Completion and an ID Card stating the completion of hte below units:
